Herbal Freshness From the Inside Out
Deodorant takes care of what’s happening on the outside, but have you ever thought about supporting freshness from the inside out?
That’s part of the inspiration behind Better Water, our root-forward herbal water blend created to bring traditional herbs into something we already do every day: drink water.
Body odor is natural. Sweat itself is mostly odorless, but when it interacts with bacteria on the skin, odor can develop. What we eat, how much we drink, hormones, stress, medications and even certain health conditions can also influence how our bodies smell.
Better Water isn’t about stopping sweat or covering your natural scent. It’s about taking a different approach to everyday freshness by combining hydration with herbs traditionally used to support digestion, elimination and overall wellness.
Our blend combines Dandelion Root, Burdock Root, Ginger Root, Licorice Root, Turmeric Root, Jamaican Sarsaparilla Root, Shatavari Root, Vetiver Root, Ceylon Cinnamon and Black Peppercorns.
Natural Deodorizing From the Inside Out
When we say “natural deodorizing from the inside out,” we aren’t talking about masking odor with another fragrance.
We’re talking about supporting the body internally while staying hydrated.
Dandelion and burdock have long histories of traditional use in herbal preparations centered around digestion and elimination. Ginger, turmeric, Ceylon cinnamon and black pepper bring warming spices to the formula, while Jamaican sarsaparilla brings a piece of Caribbean herbal tradition.
And then there’s one of our favorite ingredients in the entire blend: vetiver root.
The Vetiver Root Connection
Vetiver (Chrysopogon zizanioides) is an aromatic grass with an extensive root system. Those roots carry the deep, earthy, woody scent that has made vetiver a prized ingredient in perfumes, soaps and other aromatic preparations.
But vetiver’s relationship with freshness goes much further back than modern fragrance.
Also known as khus, vetiver root has traditionally been used in parts of South Asia to scent and cool drinking water. The roots can be infused in water, giving it a naturally earthy aroma and distinctive flavor.
That traditional relationship between vetiver + water + freshness is one of the reasons we love having it in Better Water.
Instead of creating an artificially “fresh” tasting drink, we're working with an actual aromatic root that has been paired with drinking water for generations.
Why So Many Roots?
Look at the ingredient list and you'll notice something immediately: Better Water is root heavy.
That was intentional.
Roots are dense plant material, and many have traditionally been prepared as decoctions simmered or steeped longer than delicate leaves and flowers to pull more of their water-soluble constituents into the finished drink.
Dandelion, burdock, ginger, turmeric, Jamaican sarsaparilla, shatavari and vetiver each bring something different to the formula. Ceylon cinnamon, black peppercorns and licorice round everything out with warmth, spice and depth.
The result isn't supposed to taste like flavored bottled water.
It's herbal water earthy, warming, aromatic and unmistakably plant-forward.
Freshness, Not Sweat Suppression
One thing we want to make clear: sweating isn't something we're trying to eliminate.
Sweating is a normal and important part of how the body regulates temperature.
Better Water isn't an antiperspirant, and it isn't meant to replace bathing, deodorant or good hygiene. Our approach is simply about looking at freshness from another angle.
Instead of only asking, “What can I put on my body?” we also wanted to explore, “What can I incorporate into my everyday wellness routine?”
For us, herbs and hydration were a natural place to start.
A Little Herbal Wisdom
More herbs doesn't automatically mean better, and natural doesn't mean appropriate for everyone.
Better Water contains licorice root, which may raise blood pressure and affect potassium levels in some people, particularly with higher amounts or prolonged use. Licorice can also interact with certain medications.
Other herbs in the formula may also interact with medications or may not be appropriate for certain health conditions.
If you're pregnant, breastfeeding, taking medication or managing a health condition particularly high blood pressure speak with a qualified healthcare professional before adding concentrated herbal preparations to your routine.
Better Water isn't about promising that you'll never have body odor again.
It's about something much simpler:
Hydrate. Work with the plants. Support your body. And approach freshness from the inside out.
